Lira City, – In a significant achievement, the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has collected Shs15 billion in taxes, marking a substantial 35% increase from the previous year. Mr. Geoffrey Mujabi, URA Station Head in Lira, attributed this success to the overwhelming response from Lira City, which contributed 80% of the total tax revenue collected.

Under the visionary leadership of Mr. Mujabi, URA has implemented the ‘Mpa e-Receipt Yange’ campaign to encourage individuals to seek receipts for every purchase, thereby fostering a culture of tax compliance. This initiative has proven to be a game-changer, resulting in the exponential growth of revenue collection from the region.

“The ‘Mpa e-Receipt Yange’ campaign has been instrumental in transforming tax compliance in Lira City,” Mr. Mujabi stated in an exclusive interview. “It empowers individuals to demand and obtain receipts for their purchases, ensuring transparency and accountability in the tax collection process.”

The campaign, which translates to “Give Me My Receipt,” was launched with the aim of curbing tax evasion and promoting a more accountable and efficient tax collection system. By encouraging citizens to insist on receiving electronic receipts for their transactions, URA aims to leave no room for tax leakages.

The positive response from the people of Lira City has been exceptional, with an increasing number of individuals adopting the practice of asking for receipts for their purchases. This transformational change in behavior has not only boosted tax revenues but has also laid the foundation for a more transparent and equitable tax system in the region.

Mr. Mujabi further emphasized that the success of the campaign was a testament to the collaborative efforts of URA, the business community, and the residents of Lira City. “The support and cooperation we have received from the citizens of Lira have been truly inspiring. Together, we are building a prosperous future for our city and country,” he stated.

The additional revenue generated through this campaign will have a far-reaching impact on the development of Lira City. The increased financial resources will enable the government to invest in crucial infrastructure projects, social programs, and other initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of life for the residents.

The ‘Mpa e-Receipt Yange’ campaign has not only proved successful in Lira City but has also caught the attention of other regions within Uganda. The URA has plans to expand the campaign nationwide, with the aim of replicating the success witnessed in Lira.

As the ‘Mpa e-Receipt Yange’ campaign continues to gain momentum, it is expected to significantly contribute to the country’s overall economic growth and development, ensuring a more sustainable and equitable future for all Ugandans.
