After days of uncertainty following the disappearance of 26-year-old boda boda rider Kituuka Amos Jovan, it has been confirmed that he is in police custody. Amos, reported missing by his family on September 4, 2023, was arrested for his involvement in the promotion of an unlawful protest, dubbed “Kunga,” scheduled for May 8, 2023. According to police spokesperson Fred Enanga, Amos had been evading arrest since April 2023, accused of using a public address system to encourage participation in the protest, which was aimed at pressuring the government to reduce the prices of essential commodities.
Enanga revealed that the protest was seen as an attempt to disturb public peace, with organizers mobilizing people from various regions, including Kampala, Western Uganda, and Mid-Western Uganda. Authorities believe the protest could have escalated unrest, and police have been working to apprehend others involved, some of whom remain at large.

Amos’ family, initially unaware of his detention, had reported him missing, triggering a public appeal for information. Now relieved to know his whereabouts, they face the reality that Amos is being charged under Section 51(a) of the Penal Code for inciting violence. Enanga emphasized that citizens should avoid participating in unlawful activities, warning that further arrests are likely as police continue their investigation into the planned protest.
The police urge all Ugandans to refrain from joining illegal protests and to stay clear of groups that promote actions undermining public order and peace. Authorities remain firm in ensuring the nation’s security and are committed to pursuing those who engage in activities that threaten stability.
For those with further information on other suspects connected to this case, Enanga encouraged them to report to the authorities, reiterating the government’s dedication to maintaining law and order.
