In response to Uganda’s new law against homosexuality, President Joe Biden strongly condemned it as a severe violation of human rights. He expressed his concern and called for the immediate repeal of the legislation. President Biden stated that nobody should have to live in fear or face violence and discrimination based on their sexual orientation, emphasizing that such actions are fundamentally wrong.
Furthermore, President Biden announced that he had directed his National Security Council to assess the implications of the law on various aspects of U.S. engagement with Uganda. This assessment would include evaluating the impact on services providing AIDS relief and other forms of assistance and investments. Additionally, the administration would consider imposing sanctions on Uganda and restricting the entry of individuals involved in human rights abuses or corruption in the country.
