Over the last 10 years the annual Kabaka birthday run has rallied Ugandans to join celebrate the Kabaka’s life while participating in efforts to reduce the burden of disease.
Some of the editions of the birthday run focused on ending diseases such as sickle cell, fistula and the most recent has been about encouraging people to join efforts towards ending the spread of HIV/ AIDS under the theme ‘ending HIV/AIDS by 2030.’
Whilst speaking to the runners as he flagged them off, Kabaka Mutebi warned Ugandans against letting down their guard on the fight against HIV/ AIDS.
“The fight against HIV/ AIDS is very crucial. Our people should remain healthy and should know how to prevent the spread of the virus. Don’t drop the guard,” Kabaka said.
The Kabaka birthday run is sponsored by telecom company Airtel Uganda.
Charles Peter Mayiga the Katikiro of Buganda also appreciated the runners for coming up in big numbers to celebrate the Kabaka’s 68th birthday.
“I’m pleased to see Ugandans participate in this year’s run. Buganda can only prosper with a healthy population. Airtel K2 has been a very supportive partner of Buganda in reducing the disease burden and building a healthy and productive population. I have been informed that Airtel Money now has affordable medical insurance for our informal sector people. I wish to congratulate them for intervening in this sector.”
