Authorities have deployed hundreds of police officers in Sembabule District to prevent possible violence during the ongoing election season.
Lwemiyaga County, in particular, has been identified as a hotspot for political clashes. Last month, tensions escalated when supporters of incumbent MP Theodore Ssekikubo reportedly clashed with those of his rival, Brig. Gen Emmanuel Rwashande. The violence led to the death of one person.
To prevent a repeat of such incidents, the Uganda Police Force has taken proactive steps by increasing security presence in the area. The deployment is part of a wider strategy to maintain peace during the National Resistance Movement (NRM) primaries and ahead of the 2026 general elections.
Police spokespersons confirmed that the security operation aims to reassure residents, deter violence, and guarantee the safety of voters, candidates, and election officials.
“Our goal is to secure the electoral process and protect lives and property,” a senior officer stated.
Sembabule has historically witnessed high political tensions, and law enforcement agencies are keen to avoid a breakdown in public order.
Authorities have also urged political candidates to conduct their campaigns peacefully and to discourage their supporters from engaging in violence.
