Demonstrations demanding the release of Dr. Kizza Besigye have escalated throughout Uganda, with significant protests reported in Mbarara City, Bushenyi, and Kampala.

In Mbarara, supporters of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) organized a march from Kijungu to the city center. Chanting slogans like “#FreeDrKizzaBesigye,” they called for the immediate liberation of the opposition leader. The rally culminated at the Grand Holiday Hotel, where participants planned a press conference to highlight their demands.

Bushenyi witnessed a parallel demonstration, with PFF members holding placards and urging the government to grant Besigye access to medical treatment. Protesters also condemned the silence of religious leaders regarding political detainees, issuing an ultimatum: if Besigye is not freed by Tuesday, further actions will follow.

In Kampala, tensions flared as authorities arrested Deputy Lord Mayor Doreen Nyanjura, activist Ingrid Turinawe, and five others during a protest advocating for Besigye’s release. Despite increased security measures aimed at quelling dissent, activists remain undeterred. They pledged to persist in their efforts to advocate for political freedoms and justice.

The growing wave of protests underscores the public outcry against the continued detention of Dr. Kizza Besigye, highlighting concerns over his health and the broader struggle for democratic rights in Uganda. As pressure mounts, the outcome remains uncertain, but one thing is clear: voices calling for change are growing louder.
