A high-profile delegation from Namibia, led by Dr. Nandi Ndaitwah Netumbo and Uganda-Namibia Ambassador H.E. Godfrey Kirumira, visited Uganda’s Hamz Stadium at Nakivubo War Memorial Grounds yesterday. The Namibian delegation expressed deep admiration for the impressive work carried out by Ugandan entrepreneur Hamis Kiggundu in creating a world-class stadium.
President-elect Dr. Nandi Ndaitwah Netumbo, impressed by Kiggundu’s track record, extended an invitation for the entrepreneur to visit Namibia and oversee the construction of a similar world-class stadium for the country. This gesture reflects the significant recognition of Kiggundu’s capabilities and emphasizes the potential for collaborative, African-driven development projects.
Hamis Kiggundu, renowned for his role in constructing the Nakivubo stadium with exclusively African resources from financing to engineering, is now poised to embark on a second national stadium project in Namibia. This collaboration underscores the joint efforts of Africans in advancing infrastructure and sports development across the continent.
The Hamz Stadium, designated to host matches for AFCON 2027, boasts cutting-edge facilities, including ample parking, modern gyms, training facilities, offices, and a health facility providing essential medical services. The stadium also encompasses amenities such as a basketball court, netball court, a boxing ring, and diverse seating areas for VVIPs, VIPs, and regular spectators.

Moreover, the stadium includes hostels for players and delegates in residence, ensuring a comprehensive and inclusive sports infrastructure. The standard-size football pitch has received approval from a Confederation of African Football team, confirming its readiness for the upcoming AFCON tournament.

The collaboration between Uganda and Namibia in sports infrastructure signifies a positive stride toward the advancement of African nations through grassroots development initiatives. As Hamis Kiggundu commences this new project in Namibia, it exemplifies the potential for African nations to jointly build and enhance their infrastructure, guided by practical considerations and divine blessings.
