President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and First Lady Janet Museveni have officially renewed their National Identity Cards as part of Uganda’s ongoing mass registration and renewal exercise. The activity took place at the State Lodge in Nakasero, with officials from the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) overseeing the process.
The exercise is being led by NIRA Executive Director Rosemary Kisembo and is part of a nationwide initiative aimed at strengthening Uganda’s identity management systems. The campaign emphasizes the use of advanced biometric technologies to enhance national security, ensure accurate citizen records, and support government planning.
Officials say the updated ID cards will serve as a more secure and verifiable form of identification, with the added benefit of streamlining access to public services and socio-economic programs.
The participation of Uganda’s First Family underscores the importance of the exercise and the government’s commitment to building a robust digital identity infrastructure for all citizens.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBiulVl1lXg
