Mubarak Munyagwa, the presidential candidate for the Common Man’s Party (CMP), has intensified his campaign efforts in Kamuli Municipality, urging voters to support the opposition in a bid to challenge the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) and prevent them from securing a decisive majority in the upcoming 2026 elections.
Speaking at a campaign rally in Kamuli, Munyagwa called on residents to vote strategically and turn up in large numbers to cast their ballots early on election day. He emphasized the importance of a strong opposition presence to prevent the NRM from reaching the 51% threshold required to claim victory in the presidential race.
Munyagwa Appeals for Unity and Strategic Voting
“I am urging the people of Kamuli to wake up early on Thursday and vote for leaders they trust, so that together we can stop the NRM from crossing the 51 per cent mark,” Munyagwa told a crowd of enthusiastic supporters. His message of unity and strategic voting aimed to consolidate opposition strength and deny the NRM a clear majority.
In addition to supporting the presidential race, Munyagwa encouraged voters to elect credible Members of Parliament who will genuinely represent their interests. He highlighted key issues such as service delivery, livelihoods, and accountability, stressing the importance of choosing leaders who prioritize the district’s development.
Bigirwa Pledges Community-Focused Leadership
Moses Bigirwa, CMP Secretary General and candidate for the Kamuli Municipality parliamentary seat, echoed Munyagwa’s calls for a united opposition front. He pledged people-centered leadership, focusing on practical economic empowerment and grassroots development.
Bigirwa, who criticized the excessive spending on leaders’ vehicles, promised to prioritize community development over personal luxury. “Part of the money allocated to buy me a car will be returned to the people of Kamuli and invested in village SACCOs, so that our communities can access affordable credit and improve their incomes,” he said.
Heightened Political Activity in Kamuli Ahead of Elections
The rally comes amid heightened political activity in Kamuli, with opposition parties making significant efforts to mobilize voters ahead of polling day. Both Munyagwa and Bigirwa emphasized that their campaigns are focused on promoting peaceful participation, increasing voter turnout, and strengthening opposition representation at both the parliamentary and national levels.
As the election approaches, the CMP aims to present a united front and offer voters an alternative to the ruling NRM, hoping to secure a meaningful impact on Uganda’s political landscape.
