In a poignant ceremony held at his ancestral home in Nkozi, mourners gathered to pay their respects to Paul Kato Lubwama, a celebrated actor and former Rubaga South MP. The burial ceremony, attended by hundreds of people from various walks of life, showcased the profound impact Lubwama had on the arts sector and politics in Uganda.
Born on August 16, 1970, in Nkozi, Mpigi District, Kato Lubwama embarked on a remarkable journey that spanned more than three decades. His passion for the arts blossomed at a young age, and by the time he was 15, he had already begun making waves in the theater scene. Lubwama’s talent as a musician and actor propelled him to new heights, and he further honed his skills by obtaining a diploma in Music, Dance, and Drama from Makerere University in 1994.
Lubwama’s artistic contributions went beyond his performances on stage. He founded the esteemed Royal Theatre and Diamonds Ensemble, institutions that not only entertained audiences but also served as platforms for nurturing young talent and pushing the boundaries of creativity. His unwavering dedication to the growth of the arts industry earned him a well-deserved reputation as a trailblazer.
In addition to his artistic pursuits, Kato Lubwama delved into the realm of politics, becoming a Member of Parliament for Rubaga South. His charismatic personality and ability to connect with people made him a beloved figure in the political arena. Lubwama’s genuine concern for his constituents and his commitment to addressing their needs earned him respect and admiration.
Tragically, on June 7, the nation was left in shock when Lubwama passed away due to a sudden heart attack. The news of his friend’s remand to prison, former Kawempe South Member of Parliament Mubaraka Munyagwa, deeply affected him, leading to his untimely demise. The loss of Lubwama is felt not only by his family but also by the entire nation, which recognizes the significant contributions he made to both the arts and politics.
As the final rites were conducted, the mourners reflected on the legacy that Kato Lubwama leaves behind. His talent, passion, and unwavering commitment to his craft and the welfare of his constituents serve as an inspiration to many. Though he may no longer grace the stage or the political podium, his impact will continue to resonate, reminding us all of the profound influence one individual can have on a nation.
