Masaka Diocesan Bishop Severus Jjumba has praised the Catholic families of Bukomansimbi District for their steadfast faith and dedication, which have significantly contributed to the production of numerous professionals, including priests. This commendation was made during a special Mass celebrating the Silver Jubilee of Rev. Sr. Juliet Nannyonjo of the Daughters of Mary Sisters, held on January 19 at Kawoko-Kikaawa Village in Sserinnya Parish.
Bishop Jjumba emphasized the importance of education, calling it the most valuable gift that parents can offer their children. He reflected on the remarkable individuals that have emerged from Bukomansimbi, including the late Dr. Lawrence Kaggwa, the former Director of Mulago National Referral Hospital, noting that these individuals have played vital roles in society. He stressed the need for more such figures to emerge from the community, as skilled professionals are crucial in driving development and enhancing service delivery.
“Any family that neglects the education of its children will deeply regret it in the future for not taking the right action at the right time,” Bishop Jjumba remarked.
The Bishop also acknowledged Sister Nannyonjo for her 25 years of committed service as a nun and educator, praising her work at various schools, including Christ the King Secondary School in Bulinda-Kalisizo and St. Theresa Girls Secondary School in Bwanda, where she served as head teacher from 2016 to 2022. Currently, she lectures at Uganda Martyrs University, Nkozi.
Mr. Jude Muleke, the Kabaka’s chief in Buddu County, also expressed his appreciation for the Daughters of Mary Congregation’s contributions to education and health in the region. He shared that he had been personally taught by the sisters during his primary school years, further highlighting the congregation’s impact on the community.
In his remarks, Mr. Muleke advised the youth to stay grounded and not be easily swayed by politicians as the 2026 elections approach. He encouraged them to express their political views respectfully and reminded them that, despite differing opinions, they remain neighbors with shared resources.
Presidential Advisor on Political Affairs, Ms. Ruth Katushabe, urged the residents of Bukomansimbi to disregard negative narratives spread by some opposition politicians about government poverty alleviation programs. She reassured them that the government had introduced several efficient and effective initiatives aimed at improving the standard of living for households battling poverty.
Sister Nannyonjo, overwhelmed with gratitude, thanked all those who have supported her throughout her 25-year religious journey. She reaffirmed her vows, marking a renewed commitment to her calling and the work she continues to do.
