Liverpool manager Arne Slot has voiced concerns over the team’s ongoing struggles, highlighting that they have not been performing to the high standards expected at the club. A series of disappointing results has left Slot feeling disheartened, marking this as his most challenging season in charge of Liverpool.
Liverpool struggles in recent matches
Liverpool has faced a series of setbacks in the Premier League, winning only one of their last seven games. The team’s inability to secure victories, despite strong performances, has been a major concern, with late goals from Fulham and Manchester City contributing to their struggles. Liverpool currently sits in sixth place, 17 points behind leaders Arsenal.
“A draw feels like a loss at this club,” Slot explained. “That’s definitely not easy for the players because they know the standards of Liverpool. We are not performing to those standards, and they feel that disappointment.”
The manager emphasized that although the players believe they can compete with any team in the world, their performances have not matched that belief.
Arne Slot faces toughest season yet
Reflecting on the current season, Slot acknowledged that it has been the most difficult of his managerial career. “That’s fair to say by a mile,” he confessed. “All of the other seasons I have managed here were only positives, but this season is different.”
Slot, who guided Liverpool to a Premier League title last season, is struggling with consecutive losses and a growing number of draws. Both he and the players are unaccustomed to such setbacks, which have disrupted the team’s usual success.
Bad luck or poor performance?
Slot has also questioned whether bad luck is playing a role in the team’s poor results, particularly in regard to the number of late goals conceded. “The amount of times we have conceded late goals in extra time is far more than usual,” Slot said. “Is it bad luck, or are we to blame?”
Despite trying different defensive tactics and substitutions, the results have not improved, leading to growing frustration.
Sunderland match as a new challenge
Looking ahead, Liverpool faces a tough test in their next Premier League match against Sunderland, the only team still unbeaten at home this season. Sunderland has already held their own against top teams like Manchester City and Arsenal, making them a formidable opponent.
“They have already played against City and Arsenal at home, so that tells you how good a season they are having and how strong they are at home,” Slot observed.
Liverpool’s struggle to regain form continues, but Slot remains optimistic. “There’s still a possibility we can do something special this season as well,” he concluded.
