Fresh off her acclaimed directorial debut with The Chronology of Water, Kristen Stewart says she might return to Twilight—this time as a director.
At the Palm Springs Film Festival, Entertainment Tonight asked if she’d revisit a past project from behind the camera. Her answer was a clear “yes.”
Stewart rose to global fame as Bella Swan in the 2008 Twilight film. She praised the original directors: Catherine Hardwicke, Chris Weitz, David Slade, and Bill Condon.
“I love what all of the directors did with the movies,” she said. “They were so themselves and weird and kind of squirrelly.”
She added that they were authentic before fame changed everything.
Then, she imagined a new version—with more resources and creative freedom. “I would love to readapt—yeah, sure, I’ll do the remake,” she said. “I’m doing it. I’m committed.”
Her enthusiasm makes sense. Demand for Twilight remains strong.
In 2025, Fathom Entertainment re-released the first film for the novel’s 20th anniversary. It earned $1.55 million on opening day alone.
YouTube also streamed the full series for free before the re-release. Fans continue to celebrate it as an annual rewatch tradition.
Globally, the Twilight franchise has earned over $3.3 billion. It ranks among the most successful YA series ever.
Meanwhile, Netflix has ordered an animated series based on Midnight Sun. That book retells the story from Edward Cullen’s perspective—originally played by Robert Pattinson.
Given this momentum, a Kristen Stewart Twilight remake could blend nostalgia with fresh storytelling.
She has a unique voice as a filmmaker. She also has deep personal ties to the material. Together, these could fuel both artistic and commercial success.
No official plans exist yet. But her words have sparked serious interest.
If studios give her the “huge budget and love” she mentioned, the remake might move fast. For now, fans are watching closely.
