KAMPALA UGANDA|Yesterday, businessman Hamis Kiggundu generously donated 100,000 royal palm trees, in a significant contribution to the Kampala Greening Campaign by the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) to enhance the greenery of the city.

This substantial support aims to bolster the Kampala Greening Campaign, an initiative designed to beautify the city and promote a more environmentally friendly urban landscape.

The official inauguration of the campaign took place with a tree-planting ceremony along Ggaba Road in Makindye Division.

Hajat Minsa Minsa Kabanda, the Minister of Kampala Capital City and Metropolitan Affairs, expressed appreciation for Kiggundu’s commitment to the greening campaign.

She commended his donation and encouraged the public to actively participate in such initiatives, highlighting their positive impact on the city’s overall development.

Minister Kabanda also issued a caution to livestock owners, urging them to take necessary measures to ensure the safety of their animals during the ongoing green initiative.

Dorothy Kisaka, the Executive Director of KCCA, conveyed gratitude for Kiggundu’s significant contribution and called upon other individuals and businesses to follow suit.

Emphasising the collective responsibility of the city’s residents in supporting development initiatives, Kisaka urged all city dwellers to participate actively in the tree-planting initiative.

The goal is to collaboratively create a greener and more aesthetically pleasing urban environment.

During the tree handover ceremony, Hamis Kiggundu spoke about the importance of supporting the development and beautification of the city.

He described his donation as a form of social responsibility and urged fellow business leaders to join efforts in contributing to the Kampala Greening Campaign.

Kiggundu pledged to extend the tree planting beyond Makindye Division, aiming to address the lack of greenery along various roads throughout the city.

Kiggundu’s initiative aligns with the broader objective of creating a smart and environmentally conscious city.

The donation of 100,000 royal palm trees stands as a testament to the potential impact that collective efforts can have on urban development and beautification.

As the Kampala Greening Campaign gains momentum, the city looks forward to a greener and more sustainable future, with the support of both public and private stakeholders.
