Halle Berry and Djimon Hounsou will travel to Kenya this year to film Red Card, a gripping thriller on wildlife trafficking and organised crime. Shooting begins later this year in the Maasai Mara, one of Kenya’s most iconic landscapes.
Hounsou, an American actor of Benin origin, plays Max Elmi, a veteran Kenyan wildlife ranger determined to protect endangered animals. His mission turns personal when his son, a gifted young footballer, disappears after a fake sports agent lures him into a North African crime network.
Berry takes on the role of Amanda Bruckner, an FBI supervisor leading an elite international task force. Her mission is to dismantle global trafficking networks. The plot intensifies when Max’s search for his son collides with Amanda’s high-risk investigation. They team up with Dane Harris, a relentless special agent in Amanda’s unit.
Producers say Red Card takes viewers on a dramatic journey. The story begins in quiet Kenyan villages, moves into bustling cities where trafficking thrives, and ends in the chaos of Casablanca, Morocco.
The team is still casting for Dane Harris, Max’s key ally in the field. They are looking for someone who can match the on-screen intensity of Berry and Hounsou.
Hounsou is a two-time Oscar nominee for Blood Diamond and In America. He gained global fame in 2006 with Blood Diamond, starring alongside Leonardo DiCaprio. His other credits include Gladiator, Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain Marvel, and A Quiet Place Part II. In A Quiet Place: Day One, he appears with Kenya’s Lupita Nyong’o.
Berry, 58, remains the only black woman to win the Best Actress Oscar. Despite her Hollywood fame, she continues to choose roles that push beyond conventional storytelling.
