African Cinema Celebrated at 2025 AMVCAs as Uganda’s Sabotage Earns Major Nomination
The 11th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCAs) wrapped up with dazzling performances and heartfelt celebrations honoring the finest in African film, TV, and digital storytelling. Held on May 11, the star-studded event brought together some of the continent’s most celebrated creatives, reinforcing AMVCA’s role as a beacon of African storytelling excellence.
Uganda made its mark on the international stage, with the film Sabotage—produced by Mathew Nabwiso and Humphrey Nabimanya—receiving a nomination for Best Indigenous Language Film (East Africa). While the award went to Kenya’s Makosa Di Yangu by Abel Mutua Musyoka, Sabotage’s nomination signaled a growing wave of creative momentum in Uganda’s film industry.
“This nomination is a win in itself, affirming Uganda’s place in the expanding African cinema space,” said a statement from Nabwiso Films.
