Kampala, Uganda — The 2025 edition of the Captain’s Bell Tournament, a premier golfing tradition in Uganda, is set to tee off from May 15 to 17 at the Uganda Golf Club in Kitante, now energized by a generous UGX 179 million sponsorship from Absa Bank Uganda.
Celebrated for over seven decades, the Captain’s Bell marks the formal introduction of a new club leadership. The upcoming event blends competitive spirit with community celebration, including a UGX 20 million cash prize for professionals, sponsored by Absa.
Absa’s Continued Commitment to Ugandan Golf
“We’re proud to help write Uganda’s golf story,” said Michael Segwaya, Absa Uganda’s CFO. “Golf not only builds skill but unites communities. At Absa, we believe in the power of sport to uplift and connect.”
This year marks Absa’s seventh consecutive year supporting the tournament. The bank’s involvement has opened doors for Ugandan golfers to compete in international events, including the prestigious Magical Kenya Open, part of the European Golf Tour.
A Tradition of Excellence
Uganda Golf Club captain Paul Charles Rukundo expressed deep appreciation for Absa’s long-standing support, which he said has helped nurture homegrown golf talent.
“For over 70 years, the Captain’s Bell has brought together remarkable players and friends,” said Rukundo. “Absa’s unwavering support is essential to the tournament’s success and to the growth of golf in Uganda.”
Looking Ahead
With renewed corporate backing and a growing interest in golf as a community-building sport, the 2025 Captain’s Bell promises a weekend of top-tier competition, celebration, and unity at the Kitante greens.
