The Ugandan government is rolling out network coverage and internet expansion in Mitooma District to address long-standing connectivity issues. State Minister for ICT and National Guidance, Godfrey Kabyanga, assured residents in Kiyanga, Rwoburunga, Rutookye Town Council, and Bitereko that improved digital access is on the way.
Parliament has approved $200 million through the National Information Technology Authority (NITA-U) to fund the installation of 120 telecommunication masts across the country. Mitooma is among the priority areas for this initiative, which aims to enhance service delivery, support businesses, and boost digital transformation.
Mitooma’s rugged terrain has caused persistent network issues, affecting public services and economic activities. The government plans to extend internet access to the parish level, ensuring programs like the Parish Development Model (PDM) benefit from reliable digital tools.
Minister Kabyanga urged residents to update their voter registration, stressing the importance of appearing in both the national electoral register and the NRM party register.
This ICT expansion project is a key step in bridging Uganda’s digital divide, improving connectivity, and ensuring equal access to technology across all regions.
