KAMPALA — Fresh from a commanding 3-0 victory over Guinea, the Uganda Cranes are set for their third CHAN 2024 Group C fixture against Niger at Mandela National Stadium on Monday, August 11. Goals from Reagan Mpande, Allan Okello, and Ivan Ahimbisibwe in the previous match have boosted team morale as they aim to secure another crucial win.
Uganda currently sits second in the group with three points, just one behind leaders Algeria on four points from two matches. Niger, yet to register a point, is at the bottom of the table but remains a potential threat.
Head coach Morley Byekwaso expressed confidence during the pre-match press conference, noting that while the lineup may see changes, players who impressed against Guinea could retain their spots. “Each game is different. We may adjust depending on the opponent, but our goal is clear—three points,” he said.
Byekwaso praised the home supporters, describing their energy as a driving force for the team. “The atmosphere in the last match was incredible. We respect the fans and promise to give our all because winning tomorrow will be a big step toward advancing,” he added.
The coach also provided a fitness update, revealing that Marvin Youngman and Emmanuel Anyama remain doubtful, while injured players are improving but may not be fit to start.
Defender Gavin Kizito echoed his coach’s cautious optimism. “We bounced back after losing our first game, and Niger could do the same. We can’t underestimate them. Every player is ready to make their minutes count,” he said.
The Uganda Cranes will wrap up their Group C campaign against South Africa on Friday, August 18, with hopes of progressing to the knockout stages.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cma3xqKUoaQ
