Uganda Airlines has announced it will resume flights on October,1 after being down for over six months due to the Coronavirus lockdown.

Government in March directed the closure of the airport and all the country’s borders to passengers and this meant, the national carrier had no passenger to carry.

On Sunday, President Museveni directed that the airport is reopened to tourists and Ugandans after being close to over six months.

In a statement released on Monday afternoon, Uganda Airlines announced that at the start of next month, they will resume commercial flights.

“The airline will restart its services with four destinations in the month of October,2020 namely Nairobi, Dar es Salaam, Juba and Mogadishu. Other previously served destinations like Bujumbura , Kilimanjaro, Mombasa and Zanzibar will be added later,” the national carrier said.

Uganda Airlines says since the reopening of Entebbe International Airport which is their hub, their plans for the African network expansion will continue as they plan to launch scheduled operations to Johannesburg, Kinshasa, Harare and Lusaka.

“Uganda Airlines commits to keeping passengers safe and healthy through strict adherence to approve Standard Operating Procedures and compliance with national and international guidelines for safe air travel in light of Covid-19.”

On March 19, Uganda Airlines halted its services over the Coronavirus pandemic.

“Following the spread of COVID-19 and the control measures put in place by various countries to contain its spread; in compliance with health and safety guidelines, operational requirements and regulatory obligations, we wish to communicate changes to flight operations,” a statement from the national carrier read then.

In June, all the four CRJ -900 Bombadier aircraft carried out successful test flights.

The aircraft have also been involved in several flights to various destinations around the continent as they repatriated Ugandans stuck abroad due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
