The Ham Group of Companies Uganda is a leading privately-owned multinational conglomerate, founded and chaired by Dr. Hamis Kiggundu, one of East Africa’s most influential entrepreneurs. With its headquarters officially located at The White House, the Ham Group has grown to become one of the largest and most diversified industrial groups in the region, employing over 7,000 people across multiple sectors. The conglomerate has set a benchmark in Uganda and beyond for innovation, industrialization, and sustainable business growth.

History and Evolution

The story of the Ham Group begins with Dr. Hamis Kiggundu, who founded the company in 2005. Dr. Kiggundu’s entrepreneurial journey started early, assisting his father, Hajji Segawa, in a local textile shop. Using the skills and business acumen he acquired during school holidays, he launched his first small business with capital provided by his father. This early experience in garment trading laid the foundation for a far-reaching business empire.

By 2009, Hamis Kiggundu established Ham Enterprises (U) Ltd, marking the company’s entry into real estate development. His first landmark project, Ham Towers in Kampala, was completed in 2010 and represented a major milestone in Uganda’s property market. Within 18 months, he followed up with Ham Shopping Mall, which enhanced the company’s rental revenue and enabled access to further bank financing. These projects solidified the Ham Group’s reputation as a dynamic real estate and commercial property developer.

The company’s growth trajectory accelerated over the next decade, expanding into industrialization and agribusiness. By 2021, the Ham Group had launched a US$156 million Integrated Agro-Processing Industrial Plant (IAIP) at Akright City, aimed at adding value to Uganda’s agricultural output and stimulating rural economic development.
