President Museveni addressed a rally in Bushenyi–Ishaka Municipality on Tuesday, urging residents to support the National Resistance Movement (NRM) in the upcoming 2026 elections. He emphasized that NRM remains the cornerstone of Uganda’s peace, stability, and economic transformation, urging locals to recognize that their vote directly impacts their future.
NRM: The Foundation for Peace and Economic Progress
Speaking at Kizinda Market, Museveni outlined the critical role that the NRM plays in maintaining national peace. He warned of the dangers of sectarian politics based on tribe and religion, drawing comparisons to the instability in neighboring countries like Sudan. “Uganda was heading in the same direction, but when NRM came, it stopped all that,” Museveni stated, reflecting on the party’s role in building strong national institutions, including the army and police.
He further emphasized that supporting NRM is not about helping Museveni personally but about empowering Uganda’s development, ensuring that all Ugandans benefit from the country’s continued progress.
Investing in Infrastructure and Social Services
Museveni also highlighted several key developments in Bushenyi, including improved roads such as the Ishaka–Kasese and Ishaka–Kagamba routes. He announced further government plans to reconstruct the Mbarara–Ishaka road and extend power to more sub-counties, showcasing the government’s dedication to improving infrastructure and accessibility for all Ugandans.
In education, Bushenyi has seen significant growth, with numerous government and private schools providing increased access to education for local children. Museveni assured the crowd that these advances would continue as long as they support the NRM.
Encouraging Individual Wealth Creation
While praising the government’s public development projects, Museveni urged Bushenyi’s farmers to focus on wealth creation at the individual level, citing the successful four-acre model. He stressed that infrastructure like roads and electricity alone does not guarantee wealth; farmers need to adopt modern agricultural practices to enhance productivity and profitability.
The Path to Continued Success
Museveni concluded by reiterating his commitment to fostering job creation and supporting sectors like agriculture, ICT, and manufacturing. He urged Bushenyi residents to remain united in their support for NRM, ensuring that Uganda’s future continues to thrive under stable leadership.
