DODOMA — Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan has officially entered the race for a second term, launching her 2025 presidential campaign under the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party.

On Saturday, Suluhu, accompanied by her running mate Ambassador Dr. Emmanuel Nchimbi, collected nomination forms from the Independent Electoral Commission in Dodoma before proceeding to the CCM headquarters. She was greeted by a large crowd of party members and supporters.

“I thank my fellow CCM members and all the people of Dodoma for the warm welcome after I collected the nomination forms to contest for the Presidency of the United Republic of Tanzania,” Suluhu said.

She pledged to engage with citizens nationwide to share her administration’s achievements and outline her plans for the next five years. General elections are scheduled for October 29, 2025.

Calling for unity during the campaign, Suluhu urged Tanzanians to maintain peace, harmony, and solidarity—a hallmark of the country’s stability. “My appeal is for us to continue maintaining peace, unity, and solidarity to ensure a resounding victory for our party and to keep serving citizens as they expect,” she stated.

Suluhu, 65, made history in March 2021 as Tanzania’s first female president, succeeding John Magufuli after his sudden death while she was vice president—a role she had held since 2015. Known for a more consultative and diplomatic leadership style, she has also faced criticism over human rights concerns and alleged suppression of political opponents.

Her career spans decades in public service, including roles as Minister of State in the Vice President’s Office for Union Affairs, and as a minister in Zanzibar’s government. She became Tanzania’s first female vice president before ascending to the presidency.
