Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) accused as Uganda mourns the victims of violent assault
Uganda is reeling from a horrific attack on a secondary school in the western district of Kasese, where rebels from the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) unleashed violence, claiming the lives of 41 young students. The attack, described as brutal and ruthless, has sent shockwaves throughout the nation.
The public school in Lhubiriha, located just two kilometers from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) border, became the scene of a horrifying massacre. Reports indicate that the ADF rebels were responsible for the attack, targeting the students and leaving a trail of devastation in their wake.
The victims, comprising 38 students from the school and three individuals from the local community, faced unimaginable brutality at the hands of the attackers. While some were mercilessly slaughtered, several female students were reportedly abducted, adding to the anguish and grief of the affected families.
In response to this abhorrent act, the Ugandan army has initiated a pursuit of the fleeing attackers who are believed to be heading towards the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo. The ADF has a notorious history of launching attacks on civilians, particularly in remote regions of eastern Congo. Their actions are driven by their opposition to the government of President Yoweri Museveni, who has been in power for over three decades.
The international community has swiftly condemned the attack, with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, the African Union, and the European Union expressing their solidarity with Uganda. They have called for urgent action to bring the perpetrators to justice and address the underlying causes of such violence.
As the nation mourns the loss of innocent lives, the focus remains on providing support to the affected families and ensuring the rescue and recovery of the survivors who are in critical condition. The tragedy serves as a somber reminder of the need for peace and stability in the region, urging concerted efforts to prevent further violence and build a secure future for the youth of Uganda.
