A senior police official has stated that authorities are not tracking the location of opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, known as Bobi Wine. His whereabouts have been unknown since the January 15 presidential election.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Chief Liaison Officer, SSP Donald Muhwezi, made the remarks on a radio talk show. “We are not bothered by where the presidential candidates are,” Muhwezi said. He added that police are not interested in finding Kyagulanyi, “as long as he is safe.”
This statement follows days of public speculation. Kyagulanyi, who challenged President Museveni, has been absent from public view since the poll. Official results declared Museveni the winner with 71.65% of the vote, while Kyagulanyi garnered 24.72%.
However, Kyagulanyi has rejected the outcome, alleging fraud. Over the weekend, he posted a statement on social media claiming security forces raided his home. He said military and police forces switched off power and cut CCTV cameras while helicopters hovered overhead.

“I want to confirm that I managed to escape from them,” Kyagulanyi wrote. He stated he is now in hiding while his wife and family remain under house arrest. He acknowledged public concern about his location but did not reveal where he is.

The police have not commented on Kyagulanyi’s specific allegations of a raid. SSP Muhwezi’s comments suggest the force views his situation as a private matter post-election.
