Joel Ssenyonyi, the People Power spokesperson, says they decided to conduct private investigations given the denials from police and the army to prove the two security agencies wrong. He says their simple inquiries led them to somebody who recorded events as they unfolded at that particular moment.

People Power leaders have release video showing how Local Defense Unit-LDU Personnel shot dead Daniel Kyeyune, a people power activist while breaking up a procession in Nansana municipality in Wakiso district. 

Kyeyune was part of a procession of People Power supporters returning from the funeral of Ritah Nabukenya, a People power activist in Kiboga district on February 02, 2020 when he was shot dead. 

Although most of the eyewitnesses said the 26-year-old, who was dressed in a Red Uganda Cranes jersey was gunned down by LDU personnel, police said it wasn’t assure about the shooter. 

Uganda People’s Defense Force through Maj. Bilal Katamba, the spokesperson of the First Infantry Division also trashed claims that Kyeyune was gunned by LDUs.

He told journalists that Kyeyune was shot with a pistol, which LDUs don’t have. Both the army and police promised to produce a report after investigating the matter.

Video footage seen by our reporter shows an LDU officer who was looking on as police officers arrest someone, firing a bullet before running as away before a person falls down’ just as narrated by witnesses moments after the incident. 

In the two minutes video footage, eyewitnesses are also heard lamenting that somebody has been shot. According to Ssenyonyi, they have ably identified the shooter in the video as Faizo Kakooza alias kadogo.  

Police spokesperson, Fred Enanga laughed at the People Power leaders, saying that police had already obtained the said video and more others during its investigations.

He said they had identified the suspects but they are yet to arrest him since he is at large.

    When asked why police hasn’t issued a report, Enanga said Kyeyune’s family, whose father David Kabuye is a member of the police has already been notified.  

Our reporter was unable independently verify the claim. Ssenyonyi also says they are also following up investigations into the death of Ritah Nabukenya who succumbed to injuries she obtained from an accident in Nakawa.   

He says police have playing hide and seek ever since they asked them to present footage of the incident.   Shortly after the incident, Enanga claimed that the cameras were nonfunctional when Nabukenya was killed. 

However, the Internal Affairs State Minister, Obiga Kania recently told parliament, police might have lied about the incident.
