Over 400 travellers have been advised to stay in self-isolation. Of these, 121 are Ugandans and 307 are Chinese.
The Ministry of Health has clarified that there is no case of coronavirus in Uganda.
Social media has been awash with information claiming there was a case of coronavirus in Masindi and Buliisa districts.
The ministry of health, officials from world health organization and officials from the centre for disease control visited the construction sites that had been rumoured to have had a case of the virus and discovered that the community suspected self-isolation by some Chinese to be hiding sick people.
In a statement signed by health minister Ruth Aceng and World Health Organisation representative Dr Yonas Tagegn, the officials inspected the camps occupied by Chinese and found that the suspected coronavirus patient was actually suffering from malaria and was referred to Pakwach Hospital.
There are over 160 Chinese nationals in the construction camps in the area.
The statement also indicated that while there are five people in isolation, there have not been any signs of the virus.
The officials said they will continue the surveillance in the are to ensure any case of coronavirus is handled urgently.
There has not been any case of coronavirus since it broke out in China recently.
