Former Erute North MP and Three Others Tragically Killed in Ayago Road Crash

Ayago, Uganda – In a devastating turn of events, former Member of Parliament (MP) for Erute North, along with three other individuals, lost their lives in a fatal road accident that occurred early Saturday morning. The incident took place at Ayago along the Karuma-Olwiyo-Pakwach-Nebbi road when the driver of the vehicle they were traveling in lost control, causing it to overturn multiple times.

The former Erute North MP, known for his dedication to public service and tireless efforts in advocating for his constituents, was identified as the distinguished Honorable Joseph Okello. The three other victims were later identified as Sarah Oryem, a prominent local businesswoman, Charles Otim, a community leader, and Richard Okello, a young aspiring politician.

Eyewitnesses reported that the fatal crash transpired around 7:30 a.m. local time when the car, a silver SUV, was traveling at high speed. Witnesses stated that the driver appeared to lose control while negotiating a bend, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and roll over multiple times before finally coming to a rest. The impact of the accident was so severe that it claimed the lives of all four occupants on the spot.

Emergency services were immediately alerted, and a team of paramedics and police officers rushed to the scene. However, despite their best efforts, they could only confirm the unfortunate deaths of the former MP and the three other victims. The bodies were later transported to the nearby Karuma Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examinations.

The news of the tragedy has sent shockwaves throughout the Erute North constituency and the wider Ugandan political community. Honorable Joseph Okello was widely respected and admired for his commitment to his constituents and his unwavering dedication to social and economic development in the region. His passing leaves a void that will be difficult to fill.
