Airtel Uganda and Buganda Kingdom Launch 2025 Masaza Cup with New Bundles for Fans
Airtel Uganda, in collaboration with the Buganda Kingdom, has officially launched the 21st edition of the Airtel Masaza Cup, one of Uganda’s most celebrated grassroots football tournaments. The launch ceremony took place at Bulange in Kampala, marking a renewed commitment to community unity, cultural heritage, and youth empowerment through sport.
The Masaza Cup unites 18 counties of the Buganda Kingdom in a spirited football contest that has, over the last two decades, unearthed exceptional football talent while fostering cultural pride across the region.
A Legacy of Sport and Social Impact
Speaking at the launch, Airtel Uganda Managing Director Som Soumendra emphasized the company’s pride in supporting the tournament:
“The Airtel Masaza Cup represents the vibrant heartbeat of the Kingdom. It’s a powerful platform that discovers and equips youthful talent from the grassroots. It is, in its purest form, a reason to imagine a brighter future for these young athletes and Buganda.”
To enhance fan engagement during the tournament, Airtel unveiled new Masaza Bundles—affordable, all-in-one mobile packages that include data, SMS, on-net and all-net minutes, valid for 30 days. These bundles become available starting June 21, 2025, and can be activated via 10006#, the My Airtel App, or shared through Tugabane.
Soumendra added that the bundles were designed to keep everyone—from vendors to fans—connected during the tournament’s peak moments:
“Whether you’re sharing magical moments with friends, coordinating business at the stadium, or supporting your team from afar, these bundles ensure you stay connected to what matters most.”
Cultural Celebration and Community Unity
The Katikkiro of Buganda, Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga, expressed deep appreciation for Airtel’s continued support, describing the Masaza Cup as a vital tool for preserving culture and empowering youth.
“This tournament brings the 18 counties together to celebrate our shared heritage and create opportunities for the younger generation. We urge all our people to support their teams peacefully and uphold the spirit of unity.”
Tournament Kicks Off in Masaka
The first fixture of the 2025 Airtel Masaza Cup will see Buddu take on Gomba in Masaka, igniting months of thrilling football and cultural celebration.
As anticipation builds across Buganda, this year’s tournament promises not just competition, but also a renewed sense of purpose: to unite communities, celebrate tradition, and provide new opportunities for Uganda’s rising football stars.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIntYGEDMpA
